Southern Maine Cycling Club: Annual Pancake Breakfast and Meeting Oct. 25th

Hope you all have had a great season and are enjoying the beautiful fall riding. This is a quick note to let you know that the annual pancake breakfast and club meeting will be on Saturaday, October 25th following the regular SMR. There will also be a women's only ride leaving the shop in Portland at 7:30. As always, women are welcome on the normal SMR leaving at 8:00, but if you feel like going at a slightly more leisurely pace, Shannon would love to have you ride with her. After Jamie finishes dishing out his specialty pancakes, we will have a club meeting focussing on club member thoughts. We will also discuss any concerns the board of directors has so we can surmise the feelings of club members. We are also looking to add 2 seats to the board. These would include past president and future president. If you have any desire to get more involved in the club, but have been afraid of getting thrown right in the middle of it, we hope to allieve those fears with these new positions. Anyone that would consider being future president (time frame likely in another 2 years or so), please let me know. Hope to see you then.

Weekly Group Rides

Tuesday Night Ride, Portland
March thru October
5:30 P.M., from Gorham Bike and Ski, Portland.
Agressive and fun, these rides are great mid-week training, and also lots of fun. The crew tries to do a different route from week to week. Distances vary from 30-45 miles (+/-). As daylight permits, the start time goes to 6:00PM for several weeks in the summer. Call Gorham Bike and Ski in Portland for the start time, 207-773-1700.

Tuesday Night Ride, Saco
March thru October
6:00 P.M., from Gorham Bike and Fitness, Saco.
Agressive and fun, these rides are great mid-week training, and also lots of fun. A and B rides are run and then meet back at the shop. The crew tries to do a different route from week to week. Distances vary from 30-45 miles (+/-). Call Gorham Bike and Fitness, Saco for more info, 207-283-2453.

Friday Morning Coffee Ride
Year-round, weather permitting
7:30A.M., from Gorham Bike and Ski, Portland.
This is one of the club's favorite rides of the week! A casual ride up to Yarmouth, via Routes 1 and 88 to Maine Roasters Coffee. We hang. We chat. We eat and drink. Then a nice ride back down to Portland returning around 9:30. Just in time for work. If your schedule permits, we'd love to have you on this very layed-back ride! 26 miles (+/-).

Saturday Morning Ride
March thru October
7:45 A.M., from Gorham Bike and Ski, Portland.
An aggressive, yet inclusive, jaunt around Scarborough and Cape Elizabeth from Gorham Bike and Ski in Portland. The ride remains neutral from the store until the group goes over the Caso Bay bridge, goes up Antoine Street on to Highland Ave. Then the ride is open to attacks and at time very hard riding. Two sprints highlight the ride near the end of Prout's Neck, and at the Cookie Jar Bakery in Cape Elizathbeth. The group stops there, in the parking lot next to the fire station to regroup and catch its breath, and then rides easy and compact back across the Casco Bay bridge, and into Gorham Bike and Ski.
