The following is information from club member Mike Golay with regards to the 2008 Tour De Cure.
"Greetings all,
Mike Golay again, wanting to invite you to join Team SMCC for Tour de Cure 2008. This year's southern Maine event occurs in Kennebunk on June 22, 2008 (one week after Trek Across Maine, fwiw). There are three rides to choose from - 100K, 50K, 25K.
General information on the 2008 Kennebunk Tour de Cure is located here:

Last year was my first year riding TdC. In fact, TdC07 was my first long ride on a bike in 15+ years. I was drawn to TdC because of my mother's 50+ year struggle with Type 1 diabetes and because of numerous friends' and colleagues' diagnoses and experiences with the disease. I greatly enjoyed coming back to cycling last year, largely through the event, and pledged to help ADA in planning future events (I'm now on their planning board).
I have created Team SMCC for a couple of reasons:
1) To help, as a team, fundraise for the cause.
2) To help, as a team, in an unofficial capacity as Ride Ambassadors for this year's ride.
If you can spare the time I'd love to have you join the team. While I'd love for everyone who participates to fundraise (and I realize there are many of these events to pick and choose from), I'm also interested in riders who are willing to volunteer to help in ride-specific tasks such as pre-ride course marking, low-level ride leadership (think "attaboy/girl"), keeping riders on course, etc. Ideally I'd love to have 2-3 SMCC riders per ride, lending support (6-9 total). Please note that the event is fully supported with numerous rest stops. SAG support and mechanical support is also provided, as is a post-ride meal and massage! (No foolin'.)
Important note: *You need not be a current member of SMCC to join and ride with our TdC08 team.* I'm encouraging anyone - members, non-members, friends and family of either, etc. - who would like to participate in this year's event to join Team SMCC, help fundraise, ride and volunteer.
We plan to do a few event pre-rides to educate and prepare riders for the event. It's a great way to bring new riders in to the sport. SMCC also have an opportunity to have an info table at TdC08 if we elect to do so. If we do, we'd need someone to help with that task.
Please contact me at the email address below if you're interested in helping out as a Ride Ambassador or if you have any questions on the event, participation, etc.
